While the countless men and women of the U.S. armed forces risk their lives defending our freedom  around the globe, their families are at home sacrificing as well.  Fortunately, there are a number of organizations to assist them - at home and abroad.  Below is a list of some of the organizations that make a difference every day.

Air Force Aid Society

Since its inception in 1942, the Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) has been committed to helping Air Force members and their families realize their academic goals. In recent years, the Society's emphasis has been on direct funding of new initiatives that provide greater value to Air Force families.
 
 
Armed Services YMCA Armed Services YMCA

ASYMCA offers essential programs such as childcare, hospital assistance, spouse support services, food services, computer training classes, health and wellness services, and holiday meals, among many others.
 
 
Army Emergency Relief
 
AER's sole mission is to help soldiers and their dependents. AER is the Army's own emergency financial assistance organization and is dedicated to "Helping the Army Take Care of Its Own". AER provides commanders a valuable asset in accomplishing their basic command responsibility for the morale and welfare of soldiers.
 
 
Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund


The Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund was founded in October 2003 as a means of providing College Grants and Financial Assistance to surviving children and spouses of our U.S. military service members who have lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.  The financial assistance program assists disabled service member families as well.  Our donations come from families, individuals, and businesses throughout the World. Those that raise funds on their own may chose to help families within their State.

 
 
Coalition to Salute America's Heroes Coalition to Salute America's Heroes

The Coalition to Salute America's Heroes is the leading non-governmental provider of emergency financial relief to wounded soldiers from Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom and their families. The Coalition to Salute America's Heroes partners with corporate sponsors, individual contributors, and volunteers to provide a simple and meaningful way for individuals and corporations to help these veterans and their families rebuild their lives.

 
Coast Guard Foundation

The Coast Guard Foundation is a non-profit organization that proudly supports projects that enhance the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members.  Programs and projects are funded through donations from individuals, corporations, and through grants and special fundraising events. 
 
 
Disabled American Veterans

Since its founding more than 80 years ago, the Disabled American Veterans has been dedicated to a single purpose: building better lives for America's disabled veterans and their families. Fidelity to that mission has required DAV to respond creatively and flexibly to changing and sometimes unpredictable problems faced by its constituency. Whether disabled veterans have needed a voice on Capitol Hill, a nationwide service program, a transportation network or unique rehabilitation opportunities, DAV has focused its attention and resources to meet those needs.
 
 
Fisher House Foundation

Supporting America's military in their time of need, we provide "a home away from home" that enables family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time -- during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.
 
 
Homes for Our Troops Homes for Our Troops
Homes for Our Troops is a non-profit, non-partisan 501 (c)(3) organization founded in 2004. This organization is strongly committed to helping those who have selflessly given to their country and have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries. We assist severely injured Servicemen and Women and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor and coordinating the process of building a new home or adapting an existing home for handicapped accessibility.
   
Honor Flight Network
Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.
   
Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is a leader in supporting the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families. Begun in 2000 under the auspices of the Intrepid Museum Foundation, and established as an independent not-for-profit organization in 2003, the Fund has provided more than $65 million in support for the families of military personnel lost in service to our nation, and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans. These efforts are funded entirely with donations from the public, and hundreds of thousands of individuals have contributed to the Fund. 100% of contributions raised by the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund go towards these programs; all administrative expenses are underwritten by the Fund’s Trustees.

 
  National Military Family Association

The National Military Family Association, Inc. (NMFA) – “The Voice for Military Families” is dedicated to serving the families and survivors of the seven uniformed services through education, information, and advocacy.
 
 
Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society


The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is a private non-profit charitable organization sponsored by the Department of the Navy and operates nearly 250 offices ashore and afloat at Navy and Marine Corps bases throughout the world.

The mission of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is to provide, in partnership with the Navy and Marine Corps, financial, educational, and other assistance to members of the Naval Services of the United States, eligible family members, and survivors when in need; and to receive and manage funds to administer these programs.

 
Operation Homefront

Operation Homefront provides emergency assistance and morale to our troops, to the families they leave behind and to wounded warriors when they return home. Operation Homefront also provides aid to families struggling not only with emergencies, but also with the problems of everyday life.

 
Paralyzed Veterans of America

Paralyzed Veterans of America works to maximize the quality of life for its members and all people with SCI/D as a leading advocate for health care, SCI/D research and education, veterans’ benefits and rights, accessibility and the removal of architectural barriers, sports programs, and disability rights.

 
Purple Heart
The organization now known as the "Military Order of the Purple Heart," was formed in 1932 for the protection and mutual interest of all who have received the decoration. Composed exclusively of Purple Heart recipients, it is the only veterans service organization comprised strictly of “combat” veterans.  Funds for welfare, rehabilitation and/or service work carried on by the organization are derived through the collection of used household items, the operation of thrift stores, through the donation of automobiles and, at the community level, from the annual distribution of its official flower, the Purple Heart Viola. Your contribution to our programs  help the veterans who participate in these endeavors and enable the organization to do many things on behalf of hospitalized and needy veterans and their families.
 
 
Special Operations Warrior Foundation

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides full scholarship grants and educational and family counseling to

the surviving children of Special Operations personnel killed in operational or training missions and to provide immediate financial assistance to severely wounded special operations troops and their families. 

 
 Toys for Tots Toys for Tots (Marine Toys for Tots Foundation)
The mission of Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is to raise funds to provide toys to supplement the collections of local Toys for Tots coordinators; defray the costs of conducting annual Toys for Tots campaigns; provide administrative, advisory, financial, logistic and promotional support of local coordinators; provide other support that the Marine Corps, as a federal agency, cannot provide; and conduct public education and information programs, which call the general public to action in support of Toys for Tots.  
   
USO (United Service Organizations)


The USO is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services to our men and women in uniform. The original intent of Congress — and enduring style of USO delivery — is to represent the American people by extending a touch of home to the military.

The USO provides a variety of programs and services, including orientation programs, family events, travel assistance, free Internet and e-mail access, and recreation services. Service members and their families visit USO centers more than 5.3 million times each year. The USO is the way the American public supports the troops.

Major League Baseball and the McCormick Foundation have launched Welcome Back Veterans, an initiative designed to raise public awareness about issues facing today's veterans, and to raise funds to support programs and services that these returning soldiers need to repair and restore their lives.

 
 Wounded Warrior Project  Wounded Warrior Project
The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) was founded on the principle that veterans are our nation's greatest citizens. The WWP seeks to assist those men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other locations around the world.Many of the injuries are traumatic amputations, gunshot wounds, burns, and blast injuries that will retire these brave warriors from military service.
