Fixing the Acquisition Process FIXING THE ACQUISITION PROCESS The Defense Science Board recently issued a report entitled, “Creating a DoD Strategic Acquisition Platform.” The report noted that when the time comes for a reduction of hostilities in Iraq and Afghanistan, the DoD will be faced with a serious need to “refresh depleted” systems while continuing to replace major aging systems. The report plainly acknowledges that the DoD acquisition process is widely regarded as being broken and in need of reform and the development of strategic acquisition platform to guide the process.
