Logistics and Rich Internet Applications

Roundarch has developed a series of Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) and dashboards for the Air Force’s logistics community with its prime contractor, Lockheed Martin.

“The RIA approach provides the graphic user interface that Air Force personnel are accustomed to with the versatility and resourcefulness of a Web application accessed through a Web browser,” said Colt Whittall, vice president of Roundarch. “As a result, the Air Force can retire more costly legacy systems while employing more efficient and user-friendly software for airmen to successfully support missions.”

Roundarch and Lockheed Martin designed the RIAs specifically for the Air Force Portal, including the RIA dashboard for the Logistics Installations and Mission Support Enterprise View. The dashboard empowers logisticians to:

  • Track a variety of metrics relating to the readiness and status of inventory;
  • Check current report data and understand historical trends—in the same user interface;
  • Set alerts and save their data views;
  • Create presentations that automatically update with current data and changing historical trends; and
  • Provide summary views of data for the leadership staff.

To produce the applications, Roundarch and Lockheed Martin utilize a pre-built RIA framework that developers can configure to build applications quickly at low cost and minimal risk. The RIA framework leveraged existing frameworks, and custom code was developed for the applications. Looking toward the future, the applications were designed for reuse within the program and throughout the Air Force.
