As the nation faces an economic downturn of global proportions, DoD faces the challenge of continuing to protect American interests against growing threats with the reality that supplemental congressional funding is unlikely to flow as freely as in years past. In response, leading defense logisticians from government and industry are pushing for greater partnering between the military services and their contract support elements in “achieving more with less.” An increased emphasis on less expensive, more effective methods of reaching goals in ITV and total asset visibility has DoD investing in the third phase of an ongoing program to enhance RFID tracking capabilities. Efforts by DLA’s Defense Reutilization Marketing Service to recondition equipment slated for reset or left behind in theater for continued service life are resulting in dramatic savings across DoD.

The February issue features an in-depth interview with General Ann Dunwoody, new head of Army Materiel Command, returning for her second appearance as a Military Logistics Forum cover personality. In the interview, she lays out her plan for maximizing material readiness through a greater focus on Army enterprise partnering with industry. This issue also offers readers a special focus feature article on “expeditionary logistics” and how the joint services are working together to conduct more effective “over the shore” operations. Another feature looks at the Air Force’s high velocity maintenance program and how the service plans to further develop this concept inititative.

These stories along with a profile of Red River Army Depot, Texarkana, Texas, one of the Army’s top installations in the maintenance and sustainment of combat and tactical systems, can be found in this edition of Military Logistics Forum, online at www.mlf-kmi.com.
