Embedded Warehouse Management

McLane Distribution Systems (MDS), a division of McLane Advanced Technologies and a global provider of supply
chain solutions for retail and wholesale distribution markets, is working together with Microsoft to develop warehouse management functionality embedded into the Microsoft Dynamics AX enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution.

The product development effort will include enhanced functionality to support complex distribution environments in the global marketplace. The MDS warehouse management system (WMS) for Microsoft Dynamics AX provides a clear pathway for customers seeking to purchase a fully integrated, real-time, warehouse management solution in conjunction with their Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP system. McLane Advanced Technologies has also become a reseller of Microsoft Dynamics AX, adding this ERP offering to their existing supply chain management competency.

Gary Canales, president of MDS, added, “This development will enable customers to utilize MDS WMS within Microsoft Dynamics AX rather than purchasing a separate warehouse management system. Essentially, we’re offering a one stop shop for their ERP and WMS needs.” Canales noted further, “Our goal is to launch the new product in the second quarter of 2010 in conjunction with Microsoft.”

“We are very happy about MDS’s decision to work with Microsoft Dynamics AX, and we welcome them to our partner community,” said Michael Shoemaker, distribution industry market development manager for Microsoft Dynamics.

Lithium Batteries

Saft has received delivery orders for lithium batteries totaling $4.2M, against contracts with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). Saft will supply its BA 5590A/U lithium-sulfur dioxide batteries, featuring a state-of-charge indicator and BA 5372/U lithium-manganese dioxide batteries. The batteries will be used for portable military applications such as radio communication and electronics systems.

“Saft is the leading supplier of lithium batteries to the U.S. military, powering many types of communications devices used in combat throughout the armed services,” said Thomas Alcide, Saft Specialty Battery Group general manager. “We are pleased to continue delivery against these significant contracts with the DLA.”

The BA 5590A/U and BA 5372/U are manufactured in Saft’s Valdese, N.C., facility, which supplies multiple lithium battery technologies. ♦
